If there’s one thing Minnesotans know how to do, it’s staying active during the cold winter months. Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor activities, we’ve got a little bit of both for you to enjoy.

Winter Events

European Christmas Market | This event is back to in-person this year and will be at their usual spot in Union Depot. An authentic, traditional holiday market modeled after the ones in Europe, it opens on November 26, 2021 and closes December 19, 2021.

Glow Holiday Festival | An annual light experience that takes place on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds from November 18, 2021 to January 02, 2022.

Nature Illuminated | The Minnesota Zoo puts on a drive-thru light experience featuring larger-than-life animal art installations. Takes place from December 2, 2021 to January 16, 2022.

Polar Bear Plunge | With over 20 locations in MN, participants can choose a location to take the Plunge and help raise funds for the Special Olympics Minnesota. Dates vary, so check the website for information on where and when they take place.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival | This historic, traditional event showcases the beauty of Minnesota in winter and offers many events and activities (most events are free). It will take place between January 28 – February 6, 2022.

Mill City Winter Farmer’s Market | Moving inside the Mill City Museum for the winter, this market will still operate on select Saturdays from November through April. Check the website for dates.

Downtown Saint Paul Farmers’ Market | Even when summer and fall end, there are still ways to support local farmers and their wares. The Downtown Winter Market is open 9am-1pm on Saturdays beginning in December.

Winter Beer Dabbler | If you’re up for braving the cold for some local beers, attend this event at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Takes place February 19, 2022.
